Fixing Fuel Cartridge 1. Open cartridge cover. 2. Turn the knob to OFF position. Make sure that the container-fixing lever is in released position. *If knob is in ON position, the fuel cartridge cannot be set into specified position because of safety locking mechanism. 3. Place the fuel cartridge with cartridge guide in up-right position. *Make sure the cartridge guide and the receiving guide always meet. 4. Push down the Cartridge Fix Lever to FIX position. *If cartridge is not set correctly, gas will leak with hissing sound. Check to see that no sound is coming out. Ignition 1. Then, turn the knob to ON position till ignition device makes clear click sound. Check that the burner is ignited. 2. If ignition does not occur, repeat the directions. Always check to see that ignition has been effective. If burner knob is in ON position when flame is not burning, there is gas escaping which could cause an accident. Thermal Power Control Turning the knob from a strong flame to a simmer step-down flame can control thermal power. Please use your unit in a suitable thermal position. *When turning to the simmer step-down flame, turns the knob down slowly till it stops with a click sound. Turning Off 1. To turn off, return the knob to OFF position. 2. Then return the fuel cartridge fix lever to the released position, and take the fuel cartridge out. Some gas remains in the unit after turning off. For safety measures, turn on the knob and use it up once more. Handling of Fuel Cartridge After Use Make sure that the fuel cartridge has been taken out. Always place cap on the cartridge and store in a ventilated, non-humid and cool place (temperature below 104 degrees F/40 degrees C). Fuel cartridge should be stored in the up-right position. Special Precautions: Precautions for the Fuel Cartridge (Gas Container) Keep out of reach of children at all times. 1. Use only fuel cartridges (gas containers) marked “For use in Cassette-Feu Cooker only. 2. Prior to use, read through the instructions printed on the fuel cartridge (gas container) and this instruction manual. 3. Avoid exposure of the cartridge of direct sunlight (house and car windows) or flame and keep the cap on the cartridge when not in use. Store in a non-humid and cool place (temperature below 104 degrees F/40 degrees C). Do not store in the refrigerator. 4. Avoid any strong shock or impact to the fuel cartridge. Keep cartridges upright for storage. Remove cartridge from cooker before storing Precautions on Use 1. Do not use as a space heater. Do not use this unit in confined shelters unless adequate ventilation is provided. Use only for cooking purposes (not for starting charcoal briquettes, etc.). Misuse can cause a fire. 2. Do not use for drying clothes, etc. Things could fall into the flame. Precautions on Place of Use 1. Do not use in unventilated places, since this unit consumes air (Oxygen). Provide ample ventilation by utilizing at least two openings, preferably one high (ceiling level) and one low (ground level) on opposite walls to avoid possible asphyxiation from deadly gases. Provide additional ventilation for any additional fuel-burning appliances. 2. Avoid using near strong winds. The flame may be put out by a strong wind. 3. Place unit sufficiently away from inflammables such as paper, etc. 4. Do not use near other heat sources such as heaters or electric appliances. 5. Do not use near air-conditioning ducts. It might obstruct smooth burning. 6. Do not place below a shelf or in a place with a danger of falling objects. 7. Avoid direct sunlight and place a board under the unit to prevent sand, mud, and stones from entering the unit. Precaution on Setting 1. Set the unit in a stable and horizontal place. 2. Do not place inflammable objects under the unit and keep ventilation open. Preventive Precautions 1. Gas Leakage Prevention 1. Check burning condition often and at the time of turning it on and off. 2. Small flames are easily put out by gusts of wind. Adjust gas flow with care and check to make sure that the flame is burning. 3. Do not leave the unit while the flame is on, sometimes the flame can go out because of pots boiling over. 4. Gas leakage and imperfect burning are very dangerous. Turn the unit off at once when you smell a strong gas odor. *Soap and water can be used to check for leaks. 2. Fire Prevention 1. Do not place any inflammable material under or around the unit. 2. Do not carry the unit while burning. It can be very dangerous if dropped. 3. Over Heating Prevention Never do any of the following, which could cause imperfect burning: 1. Do not use two or more cookers in parallel. 2. Never use the unit without a drip pan and support. 3. Do not use plates or pans, which extend over the edge of the fuel cartridge cover. 4. Never use aluminum foil as a cooking container. 5. Never use this unit to start a wood fire. 6. Never heat empty pans. Also never use ceramic plates on the unit. 4. Burn Prevention 1. Do not touch the unit while in use or just after using. 2. Keep out of the reach of children at all times. 5. Prevention of Gas Accidents The smell of butane gas (like rotten onions) indicates a gas leak. Immediately turn the unit knob to the OFF position and turn the Cartridge Fix Lever to the OFF position. Then air out the room. Because butane gas is approximately twice as heavy as air, it will remain along the floor. Do not use any fire until the room is completely cleared of gas. Caution: Do not turn on electrical switches as they might cause sparks which may ignite. 6. What to do about Abnormal Combustion In case of abnormal combustion or emergency, turn the knob to OFF position, which will stop gas, and then turn the Cartridge Fix Lever to off and take fuel cartridge out. 7. After-Use Handling After using, turn knob to OFF position, and make sure the flame is out. Always take the fuel cartridge out and put the cap on after using. 8. Handling of Emptied Fuel Cartridge Never throw used fuel cartridge in fires. Regular cleaning and checking 1. Regular check and care is a must. 2. Do not use any unit, which seems out of order or damaged. Imperfect units could cause a serious accident. Handling When Safety Stop Mechanism Works The unit stops burning automatically by the built-in pressure sensor device when units are improperly used, covered up by an iron plate, used in direct sunlight, etc., and the inner pressure of fuel cartridge increases abnormally. In this case, please refer to the directions and remove the cause before resetting the safety mechanism. To continue usage: 1. Turn the knob to OFF position. 2. Turn the cartridge fix lever to release position and take the fuel cartridge out. 3. Place the new fuel cartridge after checking that the container fix lever is in the release position. (If new fuel cartridge is not on hand, cool down the cartridge in use with water). 4. Press the reset button strongly with the edge of a screwdriver, etc. The unit will return to normal condition. (In case a new fuel cartridge has high inner pressure, the safety stop mechanism will repeat the same function again). For Long-Term Storing 1. Check if the drip pan and unit body are clean and dry. Set the drip pan support upside down into the unit. 2. After the unit has cooled down, cover the unit in plastic and store it in the original box in a non-humid place. 3. Keep the fuel cartridge with the cap on. Store in a ventilated cool place (temperature below 104 degrees F/40 degrees C). 4. Never store the unit with the fuel cartridge in the unit. Always store them separately. Regular Checking and Cleaning Cautions on Checking Make sure that the fuel cartridge is removed before checking and cleaning. Check and clean after the unit has cooled down. 1. Remove any flammable paper, plastic, etc. 2. Overboiled dried liquid: Do not wash the whole unit. Keep the inside and outside clean. Wipe off with a clean cloth. When necessary, use kitchen cleanser on the cloth and then finish with a dry cloth. 3. Dirty burner: Clean with a brush, etc. Pay attention not to move the electrode. Burner build-up causes imperfect combustion and uneven flame. 4. Dirt on unit body and fuel cartridge: Clean with a cloth containing kitchen cleanser, and wipe off with a dry, soft cloth. Use of paint thinner, benzine, and polishing powders are not suitable for surface polish. Nylon or metal brush might damage surface finish.
